There
are, as you can imagine, a zillion photography web sites. I'm
choosing to include just a few of my favorites here. You may or
may not agree with my choices. If you have a great site to recommend,
let me know about it.
The
Luminous Landscape - This site by Michael Reichmann, rated
by PC Magazine as one of the 101 most useful sites of any kind,
is incredibly comprehensive in its coverage of nature, landscape,
and documentary photography. Excellent reviews covering both traditional
film as well as digital photography. If you want to research something
about outdoor photography you will probably find it here.
Norman
Koren Photography - Exploring Norman's site is what first
got me interested in digital printing. This is another extremely
comprehensive source of information for both the serious old-timer
and new and up-coming photographer (or those, like me, who needed
a quick introduction to digital photography). Based in Colorado,
Norman has some wonderful images of landscapes near the Continental
Divide.
Charles
Campbell Photographic Arts - Charles produces beautiful images
and teaches some wonderful techniques in his photo workshops,
which draw clients from all over the world. I attended one on
the Oregon Coast. His ChromaZone system greatly simplifies the
way in which one determines the proper exposure with color film.
If you want to learn how to be a better photographer, visit Charles.
World
Without Borders - Photographs by Subhankar Banerjee.
If you love wilderness like I do, you will love Subhankar's work.
His photographs of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge featured
in his book Seasons of Life and Land are world renowned,
have appeared on the floor of the US Congress and in numerous
exhibits, including the Smithsonian where they were moved from
the main floor to the basement after the powers that be, who favor
oil development there complained. The website is a little cumbersome
- it takes a while to find where his gallery
actually starts. And navigation is only controlled by tiny numbers
that appear beneath the images. But they are well worth viewing
if you haven't seen them before.
Kerry
Thalmann - Another excellent landscape photographer based
in the Portland area here in the Pacific Northwest. Beautiful
images from our national parks as well as special places in Oregon.
John
Shaw Photography - One of the world's best known outdoor photograpers,
his book "Nature Photography Field Guide" is a classic
resource and his photographs speak for themselves. John is based
in Colorado.
David
M Cobb Photography - A very talented outdoor photographer
based in Portland Oregon. A tastefully presented website with
landscapes, wildlife, flowers and other categories.
Best
of the Northwest Photography Workshops - Gary Hayes of Pelican
Productions, is based in Cannon Beach, Oregon. His low-cost, high-impact
long-weekend photo workshops are wonderful. I've gone to them
just to get myself out shooting in some new place I haven't been
to before, and exchange ideas with other photographers. Gary has
cancelled upcoming workshops in 2006 but may restart them at some
point in the future. (He hasn't indicated that on his site yet).
